(NEDERLAND, Co., SHOT 6/7/2004) University of Colorado professor Ted Scambos (center on knees) of Lafayette pours over the data recorded onto a laptop as he and others pulled a ground penetrating radar unit over the slope of the Arapaho Glacier one afternoon. Helping him out are fellow CU professor Tad Pfeffer (far right, in red) and Rob Bauer (center, in blue), a research assistant at the school. Scientists from the University of Colorado have been studying the effects of global warming on the Arapaho Glacier near Nederland for about five years. Using new techniques such as radar, the scientists are hoping to find the total amount of snowpack in the glacier and the long-term net loss of snowpack because of global warming.
