(NEDERLAND, Co., SHOT 6/7/2004) University of Colorado research assistant Andy Barrett of Boulder attempts to dig down through the accumulated layers of snow to the point that marks the prior season's snowfall level. They were trying to determine how much snow had fallen this year around the glacier. Scientists from the University of Colorado have been studying the effects of global warming on the Arapaho Glacier near Nederland for about five years. Using new techniques such as radar, the scientists are hoping to find the total amount of snowpack in the glacier and the long-term net loss of snowpack because of global warming.
