A cyclist pulling a trailer loaded with supplies on a self supported bike trip on the White Rim Trail, passes through a rugged portion of the trail on the Colorado River side. The trail which runs through rough and rugged country for over one hundred miles is in the Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands National Park. The park is called the Island in the Sky because from the rim, the land drops for over a thousand feet down to a broad bench (the island) and then from the bench it drops down another thousand feet to the Green River, on one side and the Colorado River on the other. Below Island in the Sky the rivers join and flow into notorious Cataract Canyon. Dean Krakel Photo/Rocky Mountain News.
