(HUGO, Colo., March 10, 2005) - An expansive 11,000 acre ranch, until recently, owned by Colorado Farms, a group of 10 Missouri investors, has been receiving over $42,000 a year from the CRP (Conservation Reserve Program) for not growing crops on the arid southeastern Colorado prairie in Lincoln County, Colorado. FSA agent Greg King thinks the land is "Heaven!" It's a rich, vibrant ecosystem of native plants and grasses that has been protected from grazing for decades and has been allowed to exist in a natural state. Colorado farms recently sold the land to a local rancher. ( Photo by DENNIS SCHROEDER / ROCKY NEWS)
