(DENVER, Co. - SHOT 3/16/2005) Spring breakers Courtney Dunham (left) and Kristin Miller, both 19, take in some of the scenery in Civic Center Park under a statue dedicated to Cristopher Columbus one afternoon in the park. Dunham is a sophomore biology major at the University of Puget Sound and Miller is a sophomore education major at the University of Utah. The two were on a spring break trip from the Four Corners area to Boulder and stopped at the park to take in some of the views. Denver is working on a plan to turn Civic Center Park into a destination point in downtown Denver by possibly connecting it to the 16th Street Mall and perhaps even burying part of Colfax Avenue to make the whole area more pedestrian friendly. The ambitious plan calls for reviving the area around the park that has largely become a haven for drug dealers and users and the homeless. The city hopes to make the park an entertainment center with food stands, concerts, film series and other attractions. (Photo by MARC PISCOTTY/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
