(DENVER, Colo., April 22, 2004) Elvis Nunez takes a catnap in the basement during a dance rehearsal when he was not needed. It had been a long day of school and it was after 9pm at this point and the company had been rehearsing non-stop from school let out at 3pm. Food and a break was on the way and he endured very well after his catnap. This afternoon the theatre kids got kicked out early for a dance class performance but before it finished they were able to get most of the kids in the play attending for a first. A local newspaper published a great cover story and the kids felt fame for a moment and the inpending jealousy and comparison too...mostly pride, however, for the hard working achievers. Jimmy, a toddler, was in need of a babysitter so Jose took over the task without blinking an eye to help out his actors. By 9pm they were still working in the basement and this was suppose to be a short night... Jose Mercado teaches and directs a band of North High School students in a first run play entitled Zoot Suit Riots. It will take place April 30-May 2 at the North Auditorium. This is the first time a play of such substance with expectation included from the teacher to make it more than just another high school play. (Photo by: STEVEN R. NICKERSON/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
