(3/2/05, DENVER, CO) Lafayette Police announced the arrest of Ramon Villalobos for the first degree murder of Thomas Avalos on August 30, 1987 outside of D.J.'s Bar in Lafayette after the two men argued over a dice game. Villalobos was apprehended by Mexican federal agents on 2/25/05 in Chihuahua, Mexico, and will be tried by a Mexican court. If convicted, Villalobos could face decades in a Mexican Federal prison. Thomas' sister Franki Avalos-Carberry wipes a tear away while Patrol Sergeant and family friend and supporter Terry R. Maschka, addresses the press. "These are my people," he said, and then he apologized to Franki and her family for having to wait 18 years for them to catch the murderer of Thomas.
