Adventist Disaster Response volunteer Ginger Vinland (cq, center), 69, of Lakewood offers up a pair of pants to Hurricane Katrina evacuee Tolisha Samuel (cq, left), 14, of New Orleans Wednesday at the old Lowry Air Force Base. About 250 Hurricane Katrina evacuees are being housed temporarily in a set of dorms on the old Lowry Air Force Base as a result of the efforts of numerous community groups and the Governor's office. An around the clock effort got the neglected dorms into livable shape in time to host the families and individuals with nowhere to call home in the wake of the storm and flooding that destroyed New Orleans and much of the Gulf Coast area. Vinland spent her 50th wedding anniversary with her husband, Steve, volunteering and said, "we thought this was a good way to celebrate (our anniversary)".
