FEBRUARY 18, 2004 - United Airlines on Wednesday, Feb 18, 2004, unveiled a new look for its airplanes that borrows from some of its past designs as well as the more contemporary style used on the fleet of its discount unit, Ted. The bottom of the plane remains dark blue and the top white, with stripes of lighter blue separating the two just below the windows. The tail will be dark blue with the airline's "U" logo in light blue. The airline's name and its traditional red and blue logo will be near the front, above the windows. United will repaint its fleet of 500 planes and hundreds of commuter aircraft over a period of years when each is scheduled for new paint. (photo provided to Rocky Mountain News by United Airlines)
