Bruce Randolph Middle School eighth graders play basketball during lunch on the first day of school Monday. The school, which opened in 2002, was one of Denver Public School's most poorly performing schools. The district has "redesigned" the school and new principal Kristin Waters, who used to run one of DPS' best-performing middle schools, has hand-picked her staff and program to make it work. The program called Challenge 2010 is aiming for a 100% graduation rate. (MARC PISCOTTY / ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
