Jessy Sanchez, 14, second from right, apologizes to the entire student body and the faculty at Denver School of Science and Technology for being a few minutes late at the beginning of the school day. Jessy was one of several students who had to apologize that morning, including Gabe Harris, 13, right. It is part of the morning ritual at the DPS charter high school. The morning circle allows teachers, students, and other faculty to make announcements, give a performance, if desired, and start the day as a group. Other freshman standing with Jessy and Gabe are, left to right, Matthew Zeigler, 14, Zeke Perez, 13, and Justin McClinton, 13. "Open just one year, it ranked number one in district CSAP math scores and second in reading after Denver School of the Arts. Every year a new grade will be added so there are just freshmen and sophomores there now, about 235 students. The school day begins with a morning meeting of all students at 8:20. They all stand in a circle in the commons room. Any student who arrives late must apologize to the whole group." (words in quotes are copied from assignment) (ELLEN JASKOL/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS) ***ALL names are from a school administrator and roster: Matthew Zeigler, Zeke Perez, Justin McClinton, Jessy Sanchez, Gabe Harris.
