(ARVADA, Colo., April 18, 2004) Lucy Wood and Jacquie Granados take to the dance floor while Joseph Snowhawk, choreographer and Jose Mercado observe their Salsa moves as it relates to the show dancing about to come up. Tonight the student actors who will also dance in the play got a lesson at "D-Note", 7519 Grandview, downtown. This was salsa night and between 100 and 200 regular participants attended mixed in with the North High kids learning and moving with style and ease. The class lasted an hour then the live band kicked in and the supervised kids, Jose Mercado in tow, stayed and practiced for a while more. It was a fun night for all. Including some mom chaperones in attendance watching the other moves of the men in attendance,,all were simply interested in perfecting dance moves together... Jose Mercado teaches and directs a band of North High School students in a first run play entitled Zoot Suit Riots. It will take place April 30-May 2 at the North Auditorium. This is the first time a play of such substance with expectation included from the teacher to make it more than just another high school play. (Photo by: STEVEN R. NICKERSON/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
