(1/17/05,Kaalapet, India) S. Mani, a fishing industry laborer, sits and stares at the ocean wishing he could go back to work carrying the fish baskets from the boat to the shore, among other things. "I want to break the rules and go out fishing. There is no earning money right now. What can we do just sitting here?" he said. He is afraid to go back into the sea, but he knows he can do it and is ready to get back to work. The Dalit Freedom Network group left Chennai, India, headed for Pondicherry, where they quickly checked into the Anandha Inn, ate lunch with their Indian co-workers and then hit the road again for Kaalapet to work in the medical camp that OM had set up. The village lost 17 people in the tsunami and the devestation was not as bad as in other places, but Samson George from OM felt like it was a good place for the Americans to get grounded in their work before moving onto more affected areas in two days.
