The hands of homorary paulbearer Tom Altherr holds a program during a memorial service for Byron Johnson, a baseball player for the Kansas City Monarchs in the Negro National League from 1937-1938, at the Park Hill Methodist Church in Denver Wednesday September 28, 2005. Johnson played baseball with the Kansas City Monarchs in the Negro Baseball Leagues from 1937-38 and was an inducted as an honorary member of the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame in Canada in 2004 where he played baseball with the Satchel Paige Traveling Team before being drafted into the military in 1941 during WWII being honorably discharged in 1945. He is survived by his daughter Jacquelyn Benton, granddaughters Lisa, Dominique, and great-grandchildren Desmarae, Salih, Najah and Amir. (BARRY GUTIERREZ/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS) **Name from program
