A historical marker, in Charlie Harbert Memorial Park, paying tribute to the Texas-Montana Trail, and homage to a better past, is the only glimpse into the community of Last Chance at the corner of HWY 36 and US 87, September 21, 2005. There are no businesses open to the public in Last Chance. Residents of Last Chance, CO a rural community about two hours east of Denver, would like to reopen them, but not at the expense allowing dumps into their community. The towns people want to maintain their community as it is. With little water, they are very protective of the environment. For two decades the savvy farmers have had to band together to keep their community from being turned into a dump for Denver's unwanted toxic waste. (DENNIS SCHROEDER/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
