Sgt. Jason Purpura (cq) of Grand Junction kisses his four month old son Preson (cq) before a ceremony Thursday at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall Thursday. About 600 members of the Colorado National Guard who served in the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts in the vicinity of St. Bernard Parish were recognized by Governor Bill Owens and Colorado National Guard leadership at a ceremony on the Jefferson County Fairgrounds Thursday October 6, 2005. The guardsmen assisted local authorities in logistics, security, incident/risk management, and search and rescue to establish strong layers of support where needed. Purpura is a military policeman in the Army National Guard (220th) and said it was the first time he's seen his son and wife Sarah (in purple) in a couple of months. He said he was glad to be home.
