Davey Pitcher stands on top of the lift tower at the base of the Alberta lift at Wolf Creek Ski Area in Colorado Monday, September 12, 2005. If the Village at Wolf Creek is built as planned, the base of the lift will be in the center of the development. More than 100 acres of trees behind him will be cleared and replaced with thousands of condos and dozens of roads. Davey Pitcher is the CEO and President of Wolf Creek Pass. He is fighting an expansion effort by billionare B.J. Red McCombs at the base of his resort. If built, the Village at Wolf Creek will have 2,100 housing units and 222,00 square feet of commercial space built on 288 acres, 115 that are currently skiable terrain and large part in wetlands in the Alberta meadows. Pitcher says "It is the families assessment that the McCombs group is trying to steal our ski area. With 465 inches of snowfall, there's a lot of issues. We are not opposed to development as long as it is proven to be reasonable and practical." (DENNIS SCHROEDER/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
