Byron Johnson's daughter Jacquelyn Benton is huged by a close friend after a memorial service for Johnson at the Park Hill Methodist Church in Denver Wednesday September 28, 2005. Johnson died of natual causes at the age of 94. Johnson played baseball with the Kansas City Monarchs in the Negro Baseball Leagues from 1937-38 and was an inducted as an honorary member of the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame in Canada in 2004 where he played baseball with the Satchel Paige Traveling Team before being drafted into the military in 1941 during WWII being honorably discharged in 1945. He is survived by his daughter Jacquelyn Benton, granddaughters Lisa, Dominique, and great-grandchildren Desmarae, Salih, Najah and Amir. (BARRY GUTIERREZ/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS) **CQ-
