Photographers and park visitors try to capture the beauty of a herd of male elk as they graze with mountain peaks behind them near the Forest Canyon Overlook at Rocky Mountain National Park on Friday August 19, 2005. The park, established in 1915, is a showcase of the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains and features peaks ranging from 8,000 to 14,259 feet tall and is home to elk, mule deer, bighorn sheep, black bears, coyotes and a wide range of birds, fish and smaller animals. Overcrowding and too many visitors at peak times of the year is a constant criticism of the park although it's hard to argue with the experience as a whole. (MARC PISCOTTY/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
