Volunteer Marilynn Allen (cq, left) of Littleton laughs with fellow volunteer Cyndi Williams (cq, right) of Aurora as the two sort donated clothes Wednesday evening in the dorms. About 250 Hurricane Katrina evacuees are being housed temporarily in a set of dorms on the old Lowry Air Force Base as a result of the efforts of numerous community groups and the Governor's office. An around the clock effort got the neglected dorms into livable shape in time to host the families and individuals with nowhere to call home in the wake of the storm and flooding that destroyed New Orleans and much of the Gulf Coast area. Many of the volunteers have said that instant friendships have formed bewteen volunteers as they've worked some long hours under trying circumstances.
