Hannah Combs (cq), 4, clings to her mother, Teresa Combs (cq) , 34, a 6th grade teacher at Columbian Elementary School in Colorado District 60 in Pueblo, Colo., at a press conference held at the Colorado Department of Education on Tuesday August 2, 2005, announcing the latest results of the Colorado Student Assessment Program. With the aid of teachers like Combs, district 60 has the highest success rate known in closing the achievement gap for lower income students. Over the course of the last 9 years Hispanic student on average have improved their success rates by 61 percent, and white students by 32 percent.
