Kansas Anthropological Association volunteers Norbert Werner (far right bottom, cq) of Dodge City, Ks. and Mark Darrow (center right bottom, cq) of Wichita, Ks. walk to a waiting bus that will take them back to a set of local college dorms that many of the hundred or so volunteers are staying in while working at the Kanorado Locality. Archaeologists from Denver and Kansas are unearthing mammoth and camel bones, some dating back to almost 13,000 years old, at an ancient campsite near Kanorado, Kan. on June 16, 2005 that may represent the earliest evidence of humans on the Great Plains. Archaeologists and volunteers are excavating three separate sites at the spot near the Colorado and Kansas border. (MARC PISCOTTY/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS) CQ Norbert Werner and Mark Darrow
