Kansas Anthropological Association volunteer Roger Ward (cq) of Eldorado, Ks. sifts through some soil while working at Site 101 in the Kanorado Locality recently. They are looking for tiny fragments of bone or artifact that might be missed by the human eye. Archaeologists from Denver and Kansas are unearthing mammoth and camel bones, some dating back to almost 13,000 years old, at an ancient campsite near Kanorado, Ks. on June 16, 2005 that may represent the earliest evidence of humans on the Great Plains. Archaeologists and volunteers are excavating three separate sites at the spot near the Colorado and Kansas border. (MARC PISCOTTY/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS) CQ Roger Ward
