Odyssey Research Program Geoarcheology and Quaternary Geology Executive Director Rolfe Mandel (cq) of the University of Kansas brushes away dirt from an American Camel (now extinct) bone buried in soil that dates back to the Clovis Horizon sometime around 13,000 years ago. Mandel is co-Principal Investigator at the Kanorado Locality. Archaeologists from Denver and Kansas are unearthing mammoth and camel bones, some dating back to almost 13,000 years old, at an ancient campsite near Kanorado, Kan. on June 16, 2005 that may represent the earliest evidence of humans on the Great Plains. Archaeologists and volunteers are excavating three separate sites at the spot near the Colorado and Kansas border.
