Kansas Anthropological Association volunteer Cleve Mulder (cq) of Salina, Ks. wipes away sweat as he works with other volunteers excavating Site 106 at the Kanorado Locality one afternoon. Temperatures in the 90's made the slow work of excavation at the site a hot and sweaty proposition. Archaeologists from Denver and Kansas are unearthing mammoth and camel bones, some dating back to almost 13,000 years old, at an ancient campsite near Kanorado, Kan. on June 16, 2005 that may represent the earliest evidence of humans on the Great Plains. Archaeologists and volunteers are excavating three separate sites at the spot near the Colorado and Kansas border. (MARC PISCOTTY/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS) CQ Cleve Mulder
