The Denver Police Department released their crime report June 16, 2005. Crime has gone up in Denver. After years of enjoying either decreases or relatively insignificant increases in crime, Denver saw an overall increase in crime of 2.1 percent, with a much bigger spike in violent crime of 23.2 percent. City officials say part of the increase is due to changes in the way crime is reported. Franklin Stiger (cq), who is cutting Larry Dunn's (cq) hair at the Afro Styling Barber Shop in Five Points, says that one thing he has noticed in the neighborhood is the number of panhandlers has increased noticeably.
