Heavy machinery pulls a lodgepole pine from a private homesite on Shadow Mountain near Evergreen on Thursday. The continuing drought and resulting bumper crop of beetles is taking a heavy toll on Front Range forests, making them more susceptible to wildfire dangers. And tucked among those trees in the 10 Front Range counties are 257,000 homes.
