Polygamy in Hildale, Utah and Colorado City, Arizona on June 1, 2005. Five of Richard Holm's 17 children sit in his SUV (Cadillac Escalade) to watch the movie, Sponge Bob Square Pants, on the DVD player, while the car is parked at his ranch outside Hildale, Utah and Colorado City, Ariz., the polygamy community on June 1, 2005. Holm used to belong to the polygamist sect, the Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints (FLDS), but in 2003 was abruptly kicked out by the leader, Warren Jeffs. He was told to leave his 2 wives and 17 children, who were then given to Holm's brother. Holm did get visitation rights with his kids, 6 of whom he spent time with on June 1, 2005. They are camera shy, and have been taught to stay away from outside influences. While their dad has been excommunicated, the children are still in the polygamist community, balancing the strict lifestyle of the FLDS (which includes no television), with the new relaxed lifestyle of their dad. Left to right, front row: Tawni, 16, Nicole, 14 (blue collar), and in the back seat are Ryan, 11, Brian 11, and Karmyn, 9 (green dress). He will take them to his house in Hurricane, Utah for a few days before returning them back to their home.
