Eighteen year-old senior Geordan Stewart (cq) of Westminster scratches his head while listening to instructions in marching band practice one morning at Pomona High School. The band program at Pomona is a major drawing point for the school pulling in a number of talented and motivated students from all over the area. The competitive band program has won the State Championship 10 of the last 11 years. A task force of eight retired school teachers and administrators is spending a week at Pomona High School observing, talking with teachers, students and parents and making recommendations on how to raise CSAP scores to make sure the school is meeting the nationwide "No Child Left Behind" standard. Overall CSAP scores at the school are pretty high but minority groups at the school lag behind and the school will ultimately be judged on its ability to raise the CSAP scores of such groups. If the school fails to raise its CSAP scores this next time around it will most likely lose its accreditation. (MARC PISCOTTY/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS) CQ Geordan Stewart
