Fifteen year-old Pomona High School sophomore Dominique Lopez (cq, right) of Arvada gathers up some papers at her locker after most students have gone home for the day and night supervisor Val Marino (cq, center) mops the floors behind Lopez. Lopez was tutoring some freshman football players after school that day. A task force of eight retired school teachers and administrators is spending a week at Pomona High School observing, talking with teachers, students and parents and making recommendations on how to raise CSAP scores to make sure the school is meeting the nationwide "No Child Left Behind" standard. Overall, CSAP scores at the school are pretty high but minority groups at the school lag behind and the school will ultimately be judged on its ability to raise the CSAP scores of such groups.
