Sixteen year-old junior Sarah Knutson (cq), of Arvada practices her flag skills as part of the Color Guard with the Pomona High School Marching Band. She has been in the marching band all three years and is part of a program at the school which has won 10 of the last 11 State Championships and attracts a number of highly talented and motivated students to the school. A task force of eight retired school teachers and administrators is spending a week at Pomona High School observing, talking with teachers, students and parents and making recommendations on how to raise CSAP scores to make sure the school is meeting the nationwide "No Child Left Behind" standard. Overall CSAP scores at the school are pretty high but minority groups at the school lag behind and the school will ultimately be judged on its ability to raise the CSAP scores of such groups.
