The Cheyenne Mountain Re-Entry Center, a medium security prison, is the first of its kind in the state: A facility where prisoners who are about six months away from parole or release are sent to so that they can more smoothly reintegrate into society. Drug and alcohol, mental health, jobs, education and living situations are assessed. The inmates are referred to as 'residents" and for the first time many of them say they are receiving help that is personal and relevant to their issues and concerns to help them assimilate back into society. Photographed October 4, 2005. (DENNIS SCHROEDER/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS) **
