Only the very top of the roof of the Alpine Visitors Center of Rocky Mountain National Park is visible as a rotary plow driven by 20 year veteran Sue O'Connor just begins to take off layers of the deep snow. At 12183 feet the highest continues paved road in the United States is about to reopen in time for visitors over Memorial weekend. In Rocky Mountain National Park outside of Estes Park, Co. rangers were clearing some 15 to 20 foot high snow drifts on Trail Ridge Road Tuesday May 16, 2005. The 48 mile road connects Estes Park with Grand Lake. (LINDA MCCONNELL / ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS) **Sue O'Connor (PIo)
