Mike McClure (cq), 44, warms his hands as he prepares to go to sleep at the overflow shelter at Samaritan House in Denver, Colo., on Thursday, May 12, 2005. McClure broke his foot in a bike wreck. Samaritan House has beds for men, women and families. McClure was given a respite bed a few days later. Respite beds are for homeless persons who are sick or injured and need a place to heal. Men who can't get a bed in the regular shelter sleep in the overflow shelter on mats on the floor. The men are checked for weapons and given breathalyzers before they enter the shelter.
