(Washington D.C. - SHOT 5/27/2004) World War II Navy veteran Luke McCleary, 84, of Montrose gets a closer look at the National World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. Thursday. McCleary served on the USS Louisville and which was hit three separate times in kamikaze attacks by the Japanese. A group of about 100 Colorado veterans that served in World War II have traveled to Washington D.C. for Saturday's dedication ceremony of the National World War II Memorial. The memorial, nearly 60 years in the making, is located between the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial and honors the 16 million who served and 400,000 who gave their lives in the war.
