Hannah Benigno , a student at D'Evelyn school in Jefferson County, tries to steady a ten foot pile of textbooks while John Gore, research associate for the Independence Institute, adds just one more to the top. The demonstration was on the west steps of the capital Wednesday morning and was to show what could be bought with money that school districts spend on teacher unions. Jon Caldara, president of Independence Institute, will topple a 10-foot stack of books on the Capitol steps. He says the books demonstrate how large a stack of books that could be bought every year with the support that school districts provide for teachers unions.
