Kay Wakefield(cq) (LEFT and STANDING), chaplain, performs a blessing on the hands of Jeannette Huff(cq)(RIGHT and SEATED), volunteer information desk worker. Ms. Huff could not leave her position so Ms. Wakefield came from the chapel to her workplace. This blessing of hands is for caregivers of all aspects of employment and is to honor National Nurses Week and National Hospital Week. Porter Adventist Hospital, Downing St., Denver, Colo., is a faith based institution believing touch is an important part of the medical profession and success in interacting with patients. This has been expanded to include all workers involved in some way from maintenance people to those who manage the billing, offering each an understanding they play a key role in how patients and their families feel when in the facility. All were welcome in the chapel this day for the blessing from noon until 12:30pm. a brief liturgy was read and then each person present offered their hands for annointing oil to be placed on the hands...(all information from Sam Miller, chaplain, Director of Mission and Ministry).
