Alfredo Atayde (cq), left, of Denver, and Michael Grimes (cq), of Littleton, customers at Argonaut Liquors on Thursday, June 23, participate in the first in-store spirits tasting event in Denver since the repeal of prohibition. Atayde and Grimes are both managers at an AutoZone store in Littleton, and were done with work for the day. In 2004, the Colorado Legislature passed legislation to allow local municipalities to decide whether or not to hold spirits tastings in off-premise retail stores. The change in the law made Colorado the 23rd state nationwide-and ninth in the past two years- to allow spirits tastings at a retail store. The tasting offered bourbon and Caribbean rum.
