Urologist Dr. Ted Eigner (cq) pauses at the control unit as his team makes adjustments during a robotic pyeloplasty surgery at Porter Adventist Hospital in Denver on Tuesday June 21, 2005. Eigner's view through the unit is in three-dimensions and non-reversed, as opposed to some older methods such lathroscopic surgery. The hospital purchased the $1.2 million da Vinci system from Intuitive Surgical out of Sunnyvale, Ca. and has been using the system to perform surgeries that require far less time to recover from because the incisions required for surgery are much smaller and less invasive. Patients typically can be released from the hospital in a day or two instead of a week with conventional surgery. Intuitive Surgical account manager Megan Mescher (cq) of Boulder said, "this is the future of surgery, no doubt about it". (MARC PISCOTTY/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS) CQ Megan Mescher and Ted Eigner
