Denver Museum of Nature and Science Curator of Archaeology Steve Holen (cq) holds a stone hide scraping tool found at Site 105 at the Kanorado Locality one afternoon. Archaeologists from Denver and Kansas are unearthing mammoth and camel bones, some dating back to almost 13,000 years old, at an ancient campsite near Kanorado, Kan. on June 16, 2005 that may represent the earliest evidence of humans on the Great Plains. Archaeologists and volunteers are excavating three separate sites at the spot near the Colorado and Kansas border. (MARC PISCOTTY/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS) CQ Steve Holen
