State Treasurer Mike Coffman does pull-ups in the doorway to his office Friday. Coffman put in his last day at the office Friday June 3, 2005 as he prepares to head off to Iraq as part of a Civil Affairs Unit in the U.S. Marines charged with the difficult task of helping the Iraqi people build a government. Coffman is part of a group of about 150 current and former military and government officials making the trip to some of the most dangerous parts of Iraq. Coffman said he has been trying to get into the best shape possible in preparation for the Marine training prior to the trip and said he has been doing pushups, pullups and jogging. The 50 year old Coffman did ten pull-ups Friday afternoon and jokingly said, "I used to be able to do 20 but not anymore". On the wall by his door is a plaque given to him by the Rocky Mountain Navy.
