The Rotary Club of Denver unveiled a statue "The Player" dedicated in the name of the late Branch Rickey on Wednesday, June 1, 2005. Branch Rickey, known as "Mr Baseball" became the first manager to break the color barrier by signing Jackie Robinson in 1945. The award in his name sponsored by the Rotary Club since 1922 is given each year to humanitarians in major league baseball. The statuette of "The Player" was sculpted by artist George Lundeen.
