The Denver Police Department released their crime report June 16, 2005. Crime has gone up in Denver. After years of enjoying either decreases or relatively insignificant increases in crime, Denver saw an overall increase in crime of 2.1 percent, with a much bigger spike in violent crime of 23.2 percent. City officials say part of the increase is due to changes in the way crime is reported. Charlonie Craighead (cq) works at the Five Points Business Association and lives in the neighborhood, as well. She says that Five Points is changing through revitalization, becoming more diverse, and that more people are living there. She feels that more people are staying in contact with the police and that is helping the crime rate improve. (Judy Walgren/The Rocky Mountain News) Charlonie Craighead (cq)
