CU physicist and professor Carl Wieman (cq), left, sees his colleague Eric Cornell's (cq) prosthetic arm for the first time on May 20, 2005 in the CU JILA Tower on the CU campus for their discovery of the first Bose-Einstein condensate in June 1995. Cornell jokes about his new prosthetic arm in the Jila Tower on the CU campus, where their offices are, after running into each other. Wieman hadn't seen the new arm yet, which Cornell just got a week earlier. Cornell had lost his left arm and shoulder to necrotizing fasciitis in October , 2004. It is the 10th anniversary of the discovery, which has triggered an explosion of research into ultracold atoms. (ELLEN JASKOL/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS) ***Carl Wieman (cq), Eric Cornell (cq)
