Mark Shotkoski (cq, left) of Littleton points out a few details on a map to Keri Davis (cq, center) as they look over an alternative plan Tuesday evening before a public comment session. Angry residents from Golden and surrounding communities gathered Tuesday May 24, 2005 at a CDOT sponsored Northwest Corridor Public Comment Session at the Colorado School of Mines to protest plans to build a beltway close to the town of Golden. CDOT wants to complete the beltway under the theory it would help alleviate traffic but opponents point out that even the figures in the study show it will increase travel times and not relieve traffic as much as simply improving and linking major arterials would do. They think it will ruin Golden and the town of Golden is vociferously against it. Davis lives near 64th and Indiana, one of the areas impacted by the proposed beltway and Shotkoski works for Carter-Burgess, a consulting firm employed by CDOT. Davis said their family bought the the home 12 years ago for the "beautiful rural acreage" and is concerned that a major highway would destroy the area.
