Gary May of Byers poses for a portrait with elevation drawings of one of the buildings that will be on site on May Farms at Byers. May got approval Tuesday April 26, 2005 to turn 192 acres of family farmland in Byers into an "agritainment center" that will be called May Farms of Byers. The farm will be an agricultural wonderland with possible petting zoos, festivals, an events center, seasonal farmers markets and the like. May said the idea came about as a way of trying to hold on to his family's agricultural roots instead of having to sell the farm to a home developer and watch as it is turned into another subdivision. He's been farming in Byers since the '70s. May hopes to have the operation up and running by Labor Day. May was photographed on a plot of winter wheat on his farm in Byers.
