(DENVER, Co. - SHOT 4/11/2005) Steve Phillips, 31, of Denver surfs a standing wave at Confluence Park Monday while playing on the South Platte River. Phillips said the water was pretty cold, probably about 35 degrees, and said he takes his kayak out whenever there's big water. The recent spring storm that dumped as much as a foot of snow in the Denver area turned into a lot of runoff as temperatures climbed back into the mid-40's Monday. The excess water is creating a playground for kayakers as flows on the South Platte River at Confluence Park in Denver reached about 1,500 cfs Monday. The meltdown will continue as temperatures are expected to climb into the 60's and 70's by the mid part of the week. (Photo by MARC PISCOTTY/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
