(4/22/2005, DENVER, CO.) Colorado Springs' Wasson High School senior Jason Sandry (cq), 17, jumps on shovel while digging up plants in the beds at Civic Center Park on Earth Day with his fellow Wasson High School students, (girl on left of Jason is Erin Fowler (cq), 15, a sophomore, and to the right is her sister Lauren Fowler (cq), 16, a junior, the guy in the white T-shirt's name is unknown UNK) so they can be moved to other area parks. The perennial beds are going to be replaced with permanent structures, possibly a fountain in one area. Perennials come back year after year and they take a beating in this highly used park, so a decision was made to change the beds to structures that are more durable. The kids are working with Colorado Learn and Serve and with the Parks and Recreation Department to get the work done. The Restoration Group was contracted by the Parks Department to locate the volunteers to do this work. Andrew Bissland, from Colorado Learn and Serve thought that it was fitting that the project to recycle these perennials fell on Earth Day.
