DLM0740 A swallow flies over the South Platte River near an area commonly known as the Narrows near Fort Morgan. This was the site of a proposed water storage facility known as the the Narrows Project. It was proposed by the Lower South Platte and the Central Colorado Water Conservancy Districts. The dam and resulting reservoir that was proposed to be built there was intended to provide irrigation, flood control, fish and wildlife conservation, public recreation, and potential future municipal and industrial water supplies. The project was abandoned because of environmental concerns. Increased water storage is one of the things that many think would alleviate the battles over water in the South Platte River Basin.(DARIN MCGREGOR/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
