DLM0128 Water streams out of David Raffaeli's 2,446 foot-long center pivot which supplies water to 470 acres of corn below the North Sterling Reservoir near Sterling, Colo. Wed., June 27, 2007. The pivot pumps about 2,400 gallons a minute. The water that Raffaeli and other farmers in the North Sterling Irrigation District use flows from North Sterling Reservoir, which with a storage capacity of 74,590 acre feet of water is the largest reservoir on the northeastern plains of Colorado. The reservoir depends on surface water from the South Platte River to fill so the district has fought to keep the well users shut down since 2002.
